I'm hosting my first webinar next week (and if you haven't already registered, you can do so at fieldway.org/burnout), so I need to learn how to use the tech. I've been researching for a while how I want to host this, and I settled on YouTube Live using OBS, but I had never actually done it before.

So what better way than to just go live, and while I'm at it, talk about the benefits and value of "going live?"

Too often, we underestimate how capable we are and how much we know. By going live, we discover our awesomeness. But it's also a great way to quickly uncover gaps in what we know or can communicate, and no amount of private practice will help us do that completely. We must "go live" at some point to learn and grow.

In this video, I share stories from speech & debate in high school and Computer Services User Support at Missouri State University. And, hopefully, I also encourage you, because you are more awesome than you know.

What I learned from doing this live stream:

• It takes a while for a live stream to actually show up on my YouTube page, which is why I spent the first minute and a half of this video thinking it didn't work.

• You can edit a live stream after it finishes processing, which I did, so you won't actually see that first minute and a half 🤣

• My video bitrate was 1/3 what it should have been, so the video quality isn't as good as I would like. I bumped that up and will do another live test stream soon to see how it works.

• Placing the notes overlayed on the left of OBS so I could see myself in the middle and YouTube chat on the right should work well.
