How I Built a Review System That Actually Gets Responses (FG Funnels Tutorial)

October 02, 20252 min read

Many course creators make a critical mistake with reviews: they only ask students who complete 100% of their course. The problem? Most people who get real value from your course never finish every single lesson.

I just built a complete review collection system in FG Funnels that solves this problem using what I call a "dual-trigger strategy." Instead of waiting for course completion, I capture reviews at two different points: when students reach the breakthrough moment (about 75-80% through the course) OR when they complete everything. Whichever happens first triggers the review request, and smart tag coordination prevents duplicates.

I built this entire system—from initial research to complete implementation to writing this guide—in about two hours using my custom AI consultant. Not ChatGPT giving generic advice, but an AI consultant I built that understands Fieldway's positioning, my customers, and my business challenges. That's what I teach in Build Your AI Consultant: how to create custom AI consultants for any business function, tailored to your specific needs. It's the same systematic process I used to go from "I need a review system" to "here's a complete 50-page implementation guide" in a single afternoon.

What Makes This System Work

The key innovation is the conditional logic on the review form itself. Instead of asking everyone the same questions, the form adapts based on their star rating:

1-2 stars: "What didn't work for you?" with checkboxes for specific issues, plus a required field asking "Is there anything I can do to make this right?" This gives me actionable feedback when something goes wrong.

3-4 stars: "What would have made this a 5-star experience?" This tells me exactly where to improve and what students want more of.

5 stars: "What outcomes did you experience?" This captures the specific benefits I can use in marketing and testimonials.

The automation sends three follow-up emails over two weeks if someone doesn't respond, because research shows that's the sweet spot before people tune you out completely.

Built With AI in Two Hours

I used Perplexity to research best practices for review systems, then fed that research to my custom marketing AI consultant built in Claude. It walked me through the entire strategy—the web page, form logic, automations, email sequences, everything. The whole system took about two hours to build, and now I can duplicate it for other courses in minutes.

The result? A review system that captures feedback from everyone who got value, not just the small percentage who watch every video. Plus, I get different insights based on whether people loved it, liked it, or had problems—all automatically routed through conditional logic.

Want to build this yourself? I've created a complete step-by-step PDF guide that walks through the entire setup. Request it below and you can have this running in your FG Funnels account this afternoon.
